How do I get my laptop to send a signal to myprojector?

I have a Toshiba Equium A60-692 and having prepared a Powerpoint prsentation
in XP now want to see it projected. The trouble shooting screen tells me that
I "might need to manually activate the laptop video port". I have yet to
discover how that is achieved!
