Tapping the Print Screen doesn't actually print the screen (you don't need the
alt key). Print screen places the screen on your clipboard, open an application,
paste...and then print.
As Mary noted, you do not need to use the Alt key, however if you want
to capture the current window, such as only a dialog box, rather than
the entire screen, then use Alt+ Print.
