How do I get my website out of "frames"?

Apparently search engines aren't fond of frames and my ranking has dropped
off the charts since I've made this change. How can I remove the frameset?

I doubt it, honestly. SE's have no problems with frames.
How can I remove the frameset?

Rebuild the site and get real cozy with copy/paste.

Frames may give problems with search engines. Are you saying your ranking
went south when you changed to frames? If so how long ago was this? If it
was recently (ie last few weeks) it might just be due to constant updating.
When you check your rank on google don't go to google to check go here
http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/google-data-centers.php
this will check your rank against 17 google data centres - by keeping an eye
on these results you should be able to see if you're going up, down or
sideways.

If you're concerned with SEO I'd never use frames. To remove the frames just
go back to the layout you had before

Yes and no - google looks at content (ie the stuff on the page) but also
takes account of the whole site. Let's say I had a framed site (banner left
nav and content) about Ferraris and a content page on the 250 GTO google
would rank that page on the keyword density of 250 GTO but would'nt see
incoming links. A search engine can't see the 3 frames as being the same
page and therefore can't rank the whole site as being a good resource on
Ferraris. I may well win on the phrase "250 gto" but I'd probably lose on
"ferrari 250 gto"

Not to mention if a user clicks the page in his search results he's going to
get the page on it's own without any banner or navigation.

That's why it always helps (if you must use frames) to always use No Frames pages w/ at least plain text nav / site map content to
all the pages in the site
- One approach is to build the pages w/o frames and nav bars (but internal page links) and use FP includes to include the content in
similarly named framed pages

The other problem some SE have w/ frames is in linking to the individual pages w/ the site
- especially if the pages use any frame "control" scripts
(redirecting back to w/i a frameset home page or preventing opening the site pages outside of frames)
- of course if they don't, the SE will link to the pages outside of frames and bust your framesets

IMHO
Use of frames is too problematic for SE and users

All your framed pages (except your starting home / frameset page) can become unframed if you go thru and remove all target
attributes in any hyperlinks (and scripts)
(if they use any frame names - change them to target="_self")
and by deleting any base target tags in the Head section of the pages

Then create a new home page (to replace the starting frameset page) and either apply navigation to all pages using Include Pages or
Shared borders w/ nav bars, or preferably w/ a Dynamic Web template applied

I don't see that as fixing the problem that Jon describes, but for sure,
it's a unique opportunity for content that should not be missed if you must
use frames.

Agree
- nothing fixes the problems of using frames (-;
All you can do is provide as many non frame "aides" to users and SE as possible to help them
