How do I get rid of paragraph marks in my word documents?

suddenly paragraph marks and formatting dots and signs are all over my word
docs. Could someone chat me through getting rid of this sudden annoying
feature?

I am thinking that the Show/Hide option is now selected on the
Standard toolbar (this looks like a backward P). Try clicking it to
turn it off.
