How do I get rid of the autocorrect/autoformat icon

When I indent a paragraph, the autocorrect/autoformat icon appears and
overlaps the words that I continue to type. It is quite a nuisance. How do I
get rid of it?

In Tools > AutoCorrect Options, uncheck the box at the top of the dialog,
"Show AutoCorrect Options buttons".
