How do I get the speller checker wroking properly

Word does not check spelling errors or make changes to incorrect or typos.
I receive the folloiwng message after using spell check:

Text mrked with "do not check spelling or grammar" was skipped. I can't
find this anywhere in the spell and grammar program to make a change.

Please help

Open the document, SelectAll (Ctrl+A) and the go to Tools, Languages, Set
Language, choose your default language, make sure that the check boxes below
are both clear and then press the DEFAULT button. Answer YES to the stupid
question.

Now check the spelling again and it should be OK. You should also be
prompted to save changes to normal.dot when you close Word (and Outlook(.
