How do i get up-coming appointments to show in my TO-Do space?

S

ShobhitM

I changed the location of my data files of Outlook 2007 to a different drive
and directory. I was able to get everything back ( mail folders, calendar,
contacts) but there is a problem. In the default set up ( i.e. when the data
files are in teh c:/user/local apps/....... folder) i coudl see 3 or more
upcoming appointments in the right hand side To-DO space, below the month
calnedar and above the Tasks. Now even though my calendar has many
appointments, i cant get them to show in the upcoming appointments space!
Please help!!

Changing the location of your data file should not affect this at all. Are
you sure you didn't change something else at the same time? Right-click on
the To Do bar and make sure that Task List is checked....

All i did was to change the location of my data files, copied my contacts
and teh calendar to the new drive/directory.

Ah. Did you copy the Tasks folder over?
Why did you not just move the pst file, which contains ALL your email,
calendar, tasks and contacts as one file over to the new drive?

I do have a Tasks folder in my new drive- i see the tasks which i have
copied. But no upcoming appointments.

The reason i did not move the pst was because i was not sure it will work.
So i copied the contents and once i was sure that it works, deleted the
emails in the old folders.

Clearly there is something i dont understand. for instance, i now have two
contacts folders in teh new directory- a contacts and then a sub-directory
with all my contacts copied from the previous data file! i cant move the
contents of the sub-directory to the parent!

You HAVE got into a pickle for sure. I suggest you go to Start-Control
Panel-Mail, and add a new personal folder. Make that the default delivery
location. Then open Outlook, and copy the data from the other personal
folder into the new one you have just created. Then close the old personal
folder. See if that corrects the problems.

I'm sure it's just me...but I'm a bit confused about what was done in the
beginning.

ShobhitM - in your original post you mentioned you changed the location of
your "data files"...would you please name all the "data files" that you
referred to?

I'm wondering if that might be the source of the problem. You should really
only need to copy the PST file, as Gordon mentioned. It is the one file that
contains all of your Outlook-related data (with the exception of a Personal
Address Book...that is kept in a PAB file...this is not to be confused with
Contacts). You were wise to copy/rename the original PST file so you could
recreate things in case something went wrong.

One last question...are you connected to an Exchange server?

Not for Outlook 2002 and subsequent releases....

Hmmm...I did not know that. What other files are needed in addition to the
PST?

thanks,

Tim

Nothing - it's all in the pst file. all the data that is, settings are
something else.

OK...thanks...perhaps I was not clear in my writing. I never mentioned
Outlook settings, I meant only the data. But I agree...the settings are a
different animal (so to speak).

You need to add the Outlook Address Book service.
