How do I get wavy red underlines to appear? It's not working with.

I tried all the usual suspects - Options, Tools, AutoCorrect, etc. There is
just no way to get the wavy red underlines (for spelling) to appear. This is
for Word 2002 (in Offcie XP). Note: The wavy green underlines (for grammar)
do appear, which is even stranger.

Make sure that the text in question is not formatted as "Do not check
spelling or grammar" (Tools | Language | Set Language) and that you do not
have "Hide spelling errors in this document" enabled (Tools | Options |
Spelling & Grammar).

Suzanne,

Many thanks for the reply, but as I wrote, I've checked all that. The issue
is almost like a software malfunction, in that I used to get the wavy reds
(ie, indicated misspellings), but no longer, and there is no clear reason
why. I will also note that new docs created show the box checked (although
in gray) that you noted ("Do not check spelling or grammar" in Tools |
Language | Set Language) - no matter how many times I reset the "Normal"
template for English" as the default language and uncheck the above box. It's
very frustrating - the setting just won't take. Of course, I could just
learn to live with it. :( Anyway, thanks in advance for your assistance.

Suzanne - Many thanks for the URL -- this was the 'motherlode' of info that I
needed -- all problems resolved! With kind regards, Jeff
