How do I get Word to tell me the page number that I am viewing?

When I open a document that has several pages, I want to know what page,
column and line that I am on in the document. This information was available
in previous versions of MS Word. How do I turn this option on?

I followed Anne Troy's advise and click on the view option and found that the
status bar was already checked in my MS Word 2002 version. I then opened a
document that had 45 pages and testes her advise and I still did not get the
desired solution.

Hi Les,

Are you not getting the status bar at the bottom of the screen or getting the status bar but not getting the updated page
information? If the latter, what view are you in The information won't be displayed if you're in Web Layout View and may not stay
current if you're in Normal (draft) view unless you have turned on 'background repagination in Tools=>Options=>General (and you may
still need to go to the end of the document and back to have an update run through at first, but the status bar information should
update as you go when you're in Print Layout view.

Yes I am getting the status bar at the bottom of the screen. But, I only
“Sec # and Col ##†that’s BOLD. Page, At and Ln are shaded out. I do all
my work in Normal (draft) view. Background repagination in
Tools=>Options=>General is not turned. The status bar information does not
update as I go when I am in Print Layout view.

Hi Les,

When in 'Normal' view you are working in a view that is not intended to be an accurate representation of how your document will look
when you print. You won't get that information with background repagination turned off. Word isn't updating to keep track of where
your print layout would take you.
