How do I hide deleted text but show a vertical line on the margin.

I am editting a document and want to view and print it showing only a
vertical line in the margin to indicate that the line has been changed.
There is no way to hide the deleted text when viewing or printing the
document without also hiding the vertical line.

I am running XP Professional. Previous versions of Word allowed this.
