How do I hyperlink to a FOLDER on my server?

T

Tom

Naturally, I can setup a hyperlink to a file on my server drive, but I can't
setup a hyperlink to a folder, so when that folder comes up the user can
drill down to the content in that folder.

Do I need to learn about "virtual directories" in order to do this? Isn't
there an easier way? I'm not a programmer.

Your host would have to enable "allow directory browsing" in order for that
to happen.

Are you saying that a default page is a security risk?
Should all my folders have index pages removed? Right now I
have index pages in my folders, all of which redirect to
the home index page. Is this wise?

Thanks for any clarification.

Thomas A. Rowe

No. A default page will just stop anyone from browsing a folder and see it content is browsing is

This thread has nothing to do with a security risk of having a default page.

It is about showing the contents of a folder for people to view the files
available.

So in conclusion:

If folder browsing is supported, having an index page is a
good thing. If folder browsing is not alowed, having an
index page is irrelevant.

Is this correct?

Yes, if you do not want anyone to see a display of the folder content.
If folder browsing is not allowed, having an index page is irrelevant.
If you do not have a index page, the user will get an error message if they just browse to the
folder without specifying a filename.

That way, you don't need permission from the host or run security risks or

But if you have a default document in the folder, it will go to the default
