How do I identify a color in a word document?

I am using the Family Christmas newsletter template found at the following
link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010128001033.aspx.

After adding text boxes to the document I am unable to fill them with a
color matching those in the original template. I cannot identify what colors
the text boxes are filled with in the original template. How do I identify a
color in a document?

This is also important because the lighter of the two colors in this
template does not produce a quality copy from my printer. I need to be able
to identify where on the color wheel the lighter color is from so that I can
select my replacement color from a different color family.

I discovered that my inability to identify the colors was due to their
transparency. The lighter color is Dark Teal with a transparency of 80. The
darker color is also dark teal, but with a transparency of 22.

The transparency also explains my problems obtaining a good quality copy
from my printer. I do plan to download Pixie, the color picker. Thanks!

Hi Rsong,

In this particular template both the dark and light blue colors are the same color choice - Dark Teal, one of the standard colors in
Word's fill pallette.

What the template designer did to acheive the look of different colors was to use the Transparency slider. Transparency settings
don't always come out well in printed copy while they will in emailed copies.

For the light blue effect 80% transparency was used, for the darker textboxes, 22% transparency

You can use the Pixie tool http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html to see what the RGB color values are and then use that same value in
Word's 'more colors' dialog to set the same numeric values that are 'read' from what you see on screen and you should then be able
to keep the same look with better print results by using that value while setting the transparency value to zero for the color
choices.
When you're in a textbox you can use Format=>Textbox and then open the color choice to see what color is in use. You can also
select a textbox and use ctrl+D to duplicate it then edit the content after dragging to another location.

In the case of that template be careful on which textbox you select (by clicking on its borders). Th template has textboxes with
text and a 'no fill' (transparent background) overlayed onto a textbox with a color fill.
