How do I import a dot file into exisiting document

I have a custom created dot file. Also, I have an existing word document
that is completed. I would like to import the dot file so that it
autoomatically applys the styles created in the dot file. Is that possible

If you just want the style, Tools-->Templates and Addins, Attach the file
and choose Update styles.

To get an existing doc to use styles in a separate template (.dot), you need
to attach the template. That's what Word calls it. See here for how, and a
