J

John R.

I am having the worst time tring to upload my Publisher Web. I have tried
importing to Frontpage and I am still having proplems. I NEED HELP!!!

E

E. T. Culling

Not a good idea at all.... that's not what Publisher is for and it's tooooo
bad that it implies that you can make web pages with it. There should be a
warning on the box!! Use the right tool for the job ...

Microsoft disagrees. They say Publisher is great for making and publishing
web sites:

Actually, Publisher has a template selection, specifically for creating a web site.

But that doesn't mean that it really should be used. Novices get into lots

I didn't say *I* supported using Publisher for webs ;-)

I just prefer to ignore the Publisher posts. This is a FP newsgroup, and I
have knowledge about FP, not Publisher.

I have to agree with Eleanor. I use FP for my websites and Publisher for my
DTP stuff. Like the lady said - Use the right tool for the job. :)

You do when you don't tell your wife what you're about to do before using
that tool. ;-)

Every time Keith gets out a sharp tool, I reach for bandages and get the car
started. Don't want to waste any time getting him to the emergency room for
stitches.

I sure don't understand the point that they are trying to prove with that
second link. Why NOT use the proper tool? Yes, I can hammer a nail with a
shovel...........!

The point is that MS Publisher has the ability to create a web site very easily, and what it
produces may be all that the user wants or needs, plus the user truly doesn't have to know anything
about HTML.

Actually the sites create with Publish look pretty good, and it only "us" developers that care what
the HTML source looks like. Bottom-line, if displays in the current browsers (read that as the
Publisher user's browser) and Publisher user is happy, who are we to complain.

Granted, FP should be the tool of choice for web design, but it is not, and it is not for everyone.

Rob, the differences is in using the Web Site templates to start with, not the saving of a regular
Publisher template as a web.

I can understand that.

However, there's always a but or a however...I just experimented with turning my print Newsletter
into a web page...and I stand by my previous comments...a mess. I suppose if I spent an hour moving
stuff around I'd get it to how it looks in print...but by then I coulda just create the page in FP
and pulled in the graphics. And all that vml and positioning stuff...

I think it would have produced a better page if I started with a blank, and not tried a conversion.

Thanks, JoAnn. Glad to see that coming from a Publisher MVP.
