how do i import a xml file (list) into outlook

I have downloaded on my desktop lists which I want to use in mail merge to
create mailings. The lists are in 1) notepad and 2)xml format. How do I
import these to outlook?

I have microsoft windows 2003 XP, and very little computer knowledge.
