how do I insert HTML code

Can you elaborate a bit on what you need to do? And in
which version of Word? About all I can say based on this is
that Word is NOT, in any sense of the term, a HTML Editor.
You can't mix Word document text with HTML and get a
formatted result...

Perhaps what you need is Front Page?
