How do I insert line numbers in footnotes?

Nobody in my agency knows how to inset line numbers into footnotes.
Numbering seems to insert only into the body of the text.

You may have better luck in one of the Word newsgroups. A good place to
start might be microsoft.public.winword.newusers

If it isn't Word you might indicate application that's giving you problems.
