How do I insert superscripted & subscripted numbers or letters in the text of

How do I insert superscripted & subscripted numbers or letters in the text of
a Word document?

If the text you want to make subscript or superscript is already typed in the
document, then select it and press either Ctrl+= to make it subscript or
Ctrl+Shift+= to make it superscript. These are keyboard shortcuts for going into
the Format > Font dialog and checking the corresponding box.

If you're about to type some text that you want subscript, you can press Ctrl+=
first, type the subscript, and then press Ctrl+= again to stop subscripting (and
a similar procedure works for superscripts).

Select the text that u want to have it as super/subscript and now go to
Format->
Font-> here u wil find Effects here check the super or subscript box
............ and click ok........... that's it

My question is how to stop sperscript in Word 2007. I can change fonts
successfully using 'default' so I know the default setting works, but even
though superscript is unchecked when I save, the superscript still returns.
I've tried opening the 'Normal' template directly and saved the default
unchecked there too, and it still returns.

Did you make sure to change the defaults? For example, in the Font dialog
box, make sure to clear the superscript option and then click the Default
button. If/when you are prompted to save the Normal template, choose to do
so.

I'm changing the defaults correctly, like I said I can change the fonts
through default successfully, but unchecking superscript ultimately doesn't
remain. I'm beginning to think somethings wrong with the program.

I'm forced to change the superscripts per document........very annoying.

Exit Word and then rename normal.dot. (You can search for it in Windows; be
sure to search hidden files and folders.) When you restart Word, a new copy
will be created (with the default settings). Does that make a difference?

I've tried different settings and now realize I can change all the settings
through default, including superscript, BUT if I leave the superscript
setting unchecked, it still remains active. In fact, when I open the font
window, the superscript is NOT checked but still remains active, now I'm
thinking this is a problem in registry. Nothing defeats superscript except
changing it in each document as I type.

Are you saying that the default font is formatted as superscript? That
everything you type in a new document is superscript? Is the font of the
Normal style formatted as superscript?

Or is the issue only that Word is automatically superscripting certain
things, such as th suffixes on ordinal numbers? Because that is an entirely
different issue.
