How do I insert text in the space adjacent to a bullet list?

In a resume prepared by another person, the dates of employment appear next
to (left of) an indented bullet list of responsibilities. The dates of
employment are shown on two lines (2003-present is on two lines). I cannot
recreate this format.

Most of the résumé templates that ship with Word use a table format. Try
creating a new document based on one of these templates to see how it works.
Make sure table gridlines are displayed (Table | Show Gridlines) so you can
see the cell boundaries.
