How do I install Office Ultimate 2007 over Enterprise edition

B

BoZz

I have been looking for an answer for this for the past year now and have not
received any help.

My laptop has Office 2007 Enterprise on it. Now I wish to install my
personal purchased copy of Office Ultimate 2007 instead of it. What steps do
I need to take so that least damage is done both in terms of loss of data,
time and added applications.

What steps will I have to take and what precautions? Do I have to un-install
first or can I simply install over the former Office suite.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Please advice.

Thank you

PS... I have done this a number of times, and no settings were lost. Office
is very "conservative" when uninstalling and reinstalling (sometimes, this
can be a problem, as when someone tries to uninstall/reinstall to fix a
settings issue). But, for better or for worse, any custom settings will be
preserved.

I'm not positive about what happens with any/all user add-ins that might be
present, but I've never come up with any of those being MIA, either. Except
for the presence of programs that weren't there before switching to Office
Ultimate, I have never detected any difference in the behavior of Office
applications.

Note, however, that this does not necessarily apply to all updates. Windows
Update will very likely need to reinstall any Office updates that affect
core Office components. I would check the version numbers before
uninstalling Office Enterprise edition, and after installing Ultimate and
applying updates, to ensure that updates have been applied.

Thank you both for your answers, much appreciated.

In short I WILL HAVE to un-install before installing the Ultimate, right?
That is the only way?

Could you also kindly enlighten me as to the differences between the
Enterprise and Ultimate office suites?

Thanks once again.

Well... technically, you could just incrementally install the applications
that Ultimate has that Enterprise does not have. But, personally, I would
find maintaining to different suites for the same version of Office a bit
confusing. So, yes... I would remove enterprise before installing Ultimate.

As for the differences:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX102464411033.aspx

is supposed to compare the differences, but I don't think it's accurate,
since it does not show Outlook as being part of Ultimate or Professional...
which is decidedly is.

I'm in homonym mode, apparently. That should have been "...maintaining two
different suites" (just glad I didn't write "to different sweets").

What I assumed to be incorrect info about Outlook confangled me. So, that's
where I stopped reading. I should have kept reading. Apparently, Enterprise
has Outlook, while Ultimate has "Outlook with Business Contact
Manager"--which I have access to, but have never used. Ultimate also has
Office Acccounting Express 2008, which I also never used (no need for it).

On the other side of the ledger, Enterprise has "Micorosoft Office
Communicator 2007," which I believe requires connection to a dedicated
server... which I don't have, and have never investigated.

Thank you Herb. Guess I will have to go the way you suggested, a full
un-install and then the new installation.

Appreciate you taking the time out to help.

Have a wonderful weekend.
