How do I install only Excel 2000 from Office 2000?

Is it possible to install just Excel from Office 2000 Standard? I tried to
select Excel and only install it, but the complete Office 200 was installed.

1. Insert your Office 2000 CD.
2. Choose the "custom" installation option, and proceed to
the screen where you can choose which Office features you want to
install in your custom installation.
3. Click on the little black downward-pointing triangle to
the left of "Microsoft Office", and click on "Not Available".
4. Click on the + sign to the left of "Microsoft Office" to
expand the category.
5. Click on the little black downward-pointing triangle to
the left of "Microsoft Excel", and click on "Run All from My
Computer".
6. Complete the installation.

Thank you for your reply. I did all the steps below, but when I click on the
final "next" to install and the installation began the box said "Installing
Microsoft Office 2000" which is what it said the first time I tried to
install just Excel but got the entire Office package. So I cancelled
installation. I wonder if it says this no matter if you are installing only
one application or the entire Office package. Do you know?

If you actually did what I suggested, then only the selected
features (Excel, in this case) will be installed. The installer
will always say "Installing Microsoft Office 2000" regardless of
whether you choose to install everything or just selected features.

Now that I think about it, you might also want to install the
Excel and Lotus file converters under Office Shared Features |
Converters and Filters | Text Converters.

Thank you so much. Can I install the Excel converters at the same time as
Excel - where would I find them? And is it easy to select both?

Yes, you can install the converters at the same time as Excel.
If you read my previous reply, you'll see that I told you exactly
where to find the converters. Click the checkbox next to the
name of the converter to select it. "Easy" is a relative term.
Good luck.

Again, thanks so much - especially for replying so fast. As soon as I posted
my last note I realized you had, in fact, told me exactly where to find the
converter. I will give this a try - thanks.
