How do I install two install Project Server2007 in one machine

Hi all:
I need your help. We have a PS2007 running on two machines (one for
application and one for SQL database). We want to create a test environment
in the same set of server machines. Do you have any instruction on how I can
create another instance in the application server with the duplicate the
database of my production environment? My final goal is to have two PS2007
instance running parallel and I can synchronize the settings, resources
views, etcs from the production to test environment.

Hi Robert:
Thanks very much for your help. With this tool, can I also duplicate the
database? As I mentioned, I would like to set up a new test environment which
will have exactly the same settings (including resources and projects). I
would like to have a different set of database (maybe in the same database
server) working together with the new test instance.

Thanks again.

Hi Robert:
How do I create a test sever instance when I want to restore the backup from
the production environment? I think the tool can only restore to a existed
instance, right?

Thanks

Correct a second instance would be the reason to use playbook.
Simple create the second instance in the location you desire for Test and
your good.

Hi:
But before I have the second instance to restore, how do I log on to it by
Playbook? I can only log on the playbook by using the production environment.
But then, the destination server would be always the production instance.
Sorry to keep asking questions. I am newbie in this area.

Thanks

No worries its how we all learn.

Basically you are backing up the PRD databases and restoring them to the
Test instance you would like to use the same data in.
Yes you have to create a second instance and have the URL available before
you run restore of the playbook.

In the Destination Server field, type the URL for the Project Server site to
which you want to restore the server settings.

Did you setup the PRD instance you are currently using?

Read through the link I sent for running playbook it will make sense.

Acutally that was something I am not clear. How can I create the second
instrance before I run the restore of the playbook?
In the Destination Server field, type the URL for the Project Server site to
which you want to restore the server settings.

I cannot type in it. It is read only text edit field. And it is set as the
same url as the one I used to log in. So far I only have a production
instance.
Did you setup the PRD instance you are currently using?
Yes, I have a PRD instance running.

Thanks

Well if your creating it from the installation you already have established
then you would do the following:

Open the site for Central Administration
Select SharedServices1 assuming its 1 might be a different # in your setup.
The section called Project Server
Click on Project Web Access Sites
Click on Create Project Web Access Site.

May I ask who setup your current instance of Project Server?

Hi Robert:
I created the instance by following your instructions. And I successfully
restore the settings backup from the production.

But I don't have all the projects and resources in the new test instance.
Are they supposed to restore by the Playbook as well? If so, how? If not, do
you know if there is another tool to achieve that?

Thanks
Rock
