How do I keep font sizes from changing when importing slides?

When importing slides into a PowerPoint 2003 presentation, the font size
changes drastically - sometimes larger, sometimes smaller. We have used
different pc's, logged on as different users, made sure the slide master is
correct, used slide design, etc., all to no avail.

Generally, if you hit the "keep source formatting" option after you paste
the slides, the formatting stays fairly true.

Also, there's a bug with multiple masters that may be coming into play here.
