How do I keep Office from hanging up when saving to diskette?

After last Microsoft Windows 2000 update, my office 2000 applications started
to lock up my PC anytime I save a file to diskette. Has anyone else had this
problem? I thought my AntiVirus software (Norton Corporate Edition) could be
causing, but still have problem when it is disabled.

Thanks for your help.

It is never a good idea to save directly to a diskette.. save to the hard
drive first.. also, format the diskette before re-use..

Yes there is a bug in the last Windows 2000 update that caused that. And
as Mike H says, you should not be working directly to and from the
floppy in Office as that's just a data loss waiting to happen.

You will need to rerun the post SP-4 update for Windows 2000 - the bug has
been fixed, as I understand.

How do we convince MS to prevent Office programs from
directly saving data to floppies?

At the very least, users should be warned about the risks.

How do we teach people using the programs not to save data directly to a
floppy? One task might be as challenging as the other. :-(

Hi JoAnn
good point! User must first read the instructions.

We are having this problem with Word and Excel in Office 2003, XP. I have
heard that unmapping unavailable drives fixes this, but I have several drives
mapped and use them all. is there a fix for this from Microsoft?
