In Word, click on File | Page Setup | Margins | Landscape | OK.
If you only want one page of your Word document to lay down, and
the other pages to stand up, then see item 1 in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/LandscapeSection.htm .

My God how did you guess he/she was talking about landscape, I was pulling
my hair out trying to understand what was meant by "lay my paper down".
