How do I lengthen ruler to fit all the way across normal view

I just recently purchased a computer and I am trying to become more familiar
with the Microsoft Office programs. For some reason- in Microsoft works, my
ruler at the top of the document only extends about 3/4 across the page in
normal view and I would like it to extend the full width. However, in print
view it appears fine. How do I change it without messing up printing.

The ruler reflects the width of the paper; the white area is the printing
area and the shaded (blue) is the margin. You could zoom to view your
document at more than 100%. The ruler will take up more of the screen, but it
will not extend any further than the width of the paper that you have set in
Page SetUp.
