I have the page layout set for 1.5 inch left margin and 1" top, bottom, and
right. the text must be aligned left per thesis requirements and text not go
beyond 1" right margin...but in page layout and printed version text goes
beyond the right margin. How do I limit that?

If the text is routinely going beyond the right margin then either (1) your
printer is not correctly aligned and you need to change the document margin
to compensate or (2) your paragraphs have a negative right indent. If you're
seeing this onscreen in Page Layout view, then (2) is more likely.

I think (2) is correct. How do I remove a negative right indent.
Thank you for your help!

Format | Paragraph and set all indents to 0".

Thanks, but they are set to that already. The only thing I can think is that
I started with a different computer and recieved a new one and somehow it
isn't recognizes the formatting.

If you like, you can send a *very small* sample of the problem text to
sbarnhill (at ) mvps (dot) org, and I'll see if I can figure out what the
problem is.

If you click in the section that is too wide and choose Format/Column. You
will see that it is 1 column but it is 6.25 inches wide. Change it to 6" (or
click on the one column icon at the top) and you should be in business. Not
sure why 6.25 is the default when the margins make it 6" but that should fix
it.

Evidently a variation of the Columns bug. <sigh> Is this in Word 2002 or
2003 (it's supposedly fixed in the latter version)?
