how do i load a video from the internet to power point

I have a video from the internet that has been made available off-line but
still won't be recognized by power point to use. How do I make this available
to be put on power point?

What kind of video is it?
Does it play in the player Powerpoint uses?
Go to Start -> Run -> type
mplay32

open the file here, what happens? Do you get an error like
vids:xxx decompressor not found?

the xxx is the codec name which you can search for on the web
