How do I lock tasks to prevent more hours being added?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to close and lock tasks in Project so they don't
show up at all in my staff's Project Server task list. On a large project,
the number of tasks any given person has is very large. When they complete a
task, I'd like to be able to make it not show up anymore in their list, in
order to both reduce the size of their and keep them from adding more hours
to the task.

Failing that, I'd like to be able to lock the closed tasks so that they
can't add hours to them.

Does anyone know how to do this? I'm using Project 2003, (11.2.2005.1801.15)
SP2. I don't know how to tell what version of server I'm using.

Keith,

I feel your pain, but unfortunately I don't think that this is possible
unless you want to keep resources from logging hours to the plan as a whole.
If you have a plan that you want to keep on the server but not on your
resources' timesheets you can go into the plan's Resource Sheet, double-click
the resource name, and set the booking type to proposed. This will keep the
plan from displaying on the resources' timesheets. You cannot, however, do
this for individual tasks...it must be done for the plan as a whole.

The only other thing that I can think of is to train the project team
members to zero out the Remaining Work for the completed tasks and then use
the "Current Tasks" view on their tasks page. This will not prevent them
from logging actual work to these tasks but it will keep the tasks off of
their "Current Tasks" view.

FYI, I have heard that MS Project Server 2007 does allow tasks to be locked
in this manner.
