How do I manage headers in a book format?

R

Raya

I am formatting a book for publishing and want to leave the headers blank on
the Acknowledgement page and the first page of each chapter. How do I do
that without changing all the headings throughout the book?

Note that I have different headings for even and odd numbered pages.

In the Page Layout, toggle "Different First Page". Then you will have
a different header for the first page of each section.

Be sure to toggle of the Same as Previous option on each of your
headers so that changes you make in one header/footer does not travel
to the next or previous section.

The "Same as Previous" command will not be enabled unless your
document contains multiple Sections. Each chapter needs to be a
separate section so the "Different first Page" option will apply to
the first page of the Section (chapter).

To insert Section breaks use Insert/Break.

Thank you so much, Beth. The inserting Section breaks was the bit of info I
was missing. You have suddenly made my whole life infinitely easier. Thanks
to Dawn as well. If I had understood the Insert Break part, her reply WOULD
have answered my question. And kudos to both for being so prompt. All is
not lost!! :D
