how do i mark special dates on the gantt chart

I need to mark some dates on my gantt chart, signifying, for example the end
of a season, the beginning of a financial year, or summer vacation. Is this
possible?

You can do it as simply as a milestone task for each such event.

Youn can flag task by putting a "code" in one of your text fields. This will
allow you to set up a filter for these codes.
Example: Text 1 - "D" for specific milestone dates to meet. Go to
Projects>Filters>More Filters>New>Text 1 = "D".
