How do I open document created by early version of Word?

I have old documents created by Word 2.0. I now use Word 2003 (11.8227.8221)
SP3. When I try to open an old word document, I get the following message:
YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN A FILE THAT WAS CREATED IN AN EARLIER VERSION OF
WORD. THIS FILE TYPE IS BLOCKED FROM OPENING IN THIS VERSION BY YOUR
REGISTRY POLICY SETTING.

When I try to open the file in MS WordPad, I get the following message:
"Cannot open Word for Windows 2.0 files."

How do I overcome this?

Download Open Office, It will open any version of MS Word files.

I seem to recall that there is a Word 2 filter in Word 2003 but it is not
installed by default. You need to run Word Setup (from the Control Panel)
and chose advanced options and then go through the options to find the
uninstalled optional filters.
