How do I open more than one Word doc at a time?

I was able to open several Word doc at one time to edit and exchange info. I
crashed and when I reinstalled I can no longer do that. I can only open one
Word doc at a time so I cannot "copy" and "paste" info back and forth.

What happens when you try? Did you perhaps lose only the "Windows in
Taskbar" under Tools-->Options, View tab?
