Just how old is old?
I remember a long time ago, having a similar problem changing from XL5.0 on
a Win3.x machine to Win98 and XL97.
As long as I rejected the "update to new version" question, my old 5.0 files
worked fine.
On the first few where I accepted the "upgrade", I lost them to "cannot
recognize file" error messages.
Surprisingly, this didn't always happen immediately. Sometimes I could use
a WB once or twice, but then finally lose it eventually down the line.
This really isn't any help, but I repeat, how old is old?

Hi
never heard of that. Normally you should have no problems with older
Excel files. Does turning your Antivirus software help?
