How do I password a page?

K

Kilowatt

I would like to have my medical information and phone numbers posted
on my web page so I can review them from the Internet.

I am pretty new to this but what I have done so far is posted my phone
book as a xls file.

When I click the link I get the option to save or open the file. What
I would really like is just to be able to view the file as a web page.

I would also like to have to enter a password before the page is
displayed.

Suggestions?

Talk to your webhost. But I'm not too sure I'd want my medical info posted
on the web.

As a matter of interest, why would you want either your medical
details or phone numbers posted on the net and password proteted, if
you were the only one woho would want access?

I have a long list of meds I take. I also have to go to the doctor a
lot. It would be nice to just be able to pull up my web page and look
up stuff I can't remember. I also need doctor's phone numbers for
other doctors. I need numbers to my pharmacies.

When I go to a new doctor the nurse always wants me to list my meds.
I bring them with me when I know I am going but I have ended up in the
emergency room without them. Being able to access the net and print
my meds page could be useful.

I can think of several other documents that I would like to be able to
access remotely like my medical power of attorney, and my living will.

Having a password to get to them lets me pick and choose who I let
view the information.

I'd suggest getting a PDA and store this information in there. Not all
business have net access and I'd hate to think that your medical needs were
delayed just because they need to find a computer with internet access.

Kilo, I too have a long list of meds and doctors phone numbers that I need
available. And, like you, have found myself in the emergency room racking my
brain in the (worst of times) doing my best to remember all the meds. I now
carry laminated cards and keep them in my wallet. I have meds on one side
and doctors numbers on the other side. I even made up a card with dates of
all past surgerys and hospitalizations as well. I have my lists saved in MS
word...

Being in the hospital you are also asked to furnish a Living Will and
Power of Attorney. I would find it convenient to be able to enter
those documents once in my computer along with doctor's phone numbers
and contact information as well as my list of meds.

I don't think you are giving up any privacy if you password protect
the page and only allow the people with "need to know" access.
From what I gather so far Publisher does not have the power to allow
you to password a page and you have to get permission from your isp's
web master.

I envision the day when everyone will carry all this information on a
thumb drive or portable non volatile ram or be able to furnish the
information from a web page. It is silly the amount of times someone
has to take pen and paper and enter the same information.
I can't remember the last time I had Tetanus shot. Can you?

No, I don't remember when I last had a tetanus shot but I can tell you when
my husband did. (Oct/Nov 1999 - he got a nasty gash on his right thumb/hand
assembling his computer desk. Fortunately he's a leftie.)

Can someone just tell the girl how to do it? I need to know too (But am not
telling you why?) ;-)

FREE encrypted password script I have used in the past which can be found at
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/password.htm. This is JavaScript
which is significantly less secure than their CGI counterpart but it does
offer a level of security for free and that's better than no security at
all.
