How do i pevent outlook from opening email automatically?

when i go to my inbox the first email appears openned in the window to the
right. I don't want my emails openned unless i click on them. How do i set
this up?

I'm presuming you're using Outlook 2003? (always include your version & SP
level when you post).
You can turn off the reading pane if you wish (view | reading pane...)
although with OL2003 note that you aren't downloading images from the
Internet automatically, and are pretty safe from web beacons - and you are
unlikely to get a virus from opening any email message (most viruses are
attachments).
