How do I place a ^ over a number?

I am writing a paper on music in which notes of the scale are described with
numbers with the carat on top. I can't get the MS word to do this. For
example, I need a 2 with a ^ on top of it. I can do it with letters like ô,
but not with numbers. ANy ideas?

Use the EQ field as explained in
http://home.earthlink.net/~wordfaqs/Overbar.htm. Instead of the bar, use
the "modifier letter circumflex" (character 136).
