How do I print without the backgrounds?!

Sorry for newbie question but...
does anyone know how to print without the backgrounds
(which only wastes ink!)

Depending on how you inserted your backgrounds, you should be able to select
"Pure black and white" as a print option in the Print Dialog box.

printer dialog box..

Yes the slides do all have backgrounds.
and I'm struggling to get rid of them for printing.

The text is white (on colour) which doesnt help!
I can stop it printing colour but I cant stop
the outlines in the background from being printed...

Have you tried the "Print What", "Pure black and white" option?

Try applying a new template to the presentation - choose a blank template:

Print - but don't save the presentation or save it under a new name.
