how do i put a project on hold?

i need to put a certain task on hold for a certain period of time and be able
to continue working on it again when it's time is due.
So please inform if this option is possible within the microsoft project
features.

Yes, this is very possible. On the Standard toolbar (top toolbar), click
the Split Task button, move your mouse pointer to the point in the task at
which you wish to delay it, click and hold and drag to the right until you
see the date on which the task work will resume. Release the mouse button
and you will see the split task indicator (.......) in the Gantt bar,
indicating that the work started, was put on hold, and then will resume at a
future date. Hope this helps.
