How do I put the data from an Excel spreedsheet onto a US map

I need to put the data from an Excel spreedsheet onto a United States map as
flags. I was told the data from Excel can be mapped right onto the map.

If you have Visio 2007 Professional, then you can combine Link Shapes to
Data, Data Graphics with the map available at
http://www.visguy.com/2006/09/22/map-of-north-america/
