How do I recover an ealier version of a doc if overwrote the file

I saved a new doc with the file name of an old doc. I need the old doc.
Where is it on my computer? (temporary files?).

Probably nowhere. Overwriting a file is a sure way to lose it without
being able to recover it. I hope you have a backup from where you could
restore the file?
