How do I recover an Excel file which was over ridden or replaced?

I had an Excel file that I had worked on for quite some time. Somehow, I
inadvertantly pressed a key which replaced the file with a blank worksheet.
I had no back up for the file. Is there a way to find and recover this file?

Your first step should be to post your question in a group dealing with Excel
- this one deals with the database program Access.
As a second step, you will find out that, unless you have made a backup
prior to replacing/overwriting, recovery is not possible.

However, if you or your IT people have a good backup policy, you should have
a good backup.

At work, our IT folks do incremental backups of our network files every
night. At home, I use Norton Ghost to do exactly the same thing.

I'm also in the habit of making a backup copy of almost any file I use prior
to opening it. Several years ago, before I bought Norton Ghost, I actually
created an Access database that I used for opening files, rather than windows
explorer. When I opened it, it hid the Access window, then opened the file
Open/Save dialog box. When I selectd a file, popup form asked whether I
wanted to backup the file before opening it. If so, the application made a
copy of it in my backups folder, then opened the application using the
application.followhyperlink method.

Very simple application to create, and very helpful. It even lets me
cleanup my backups.
