how do i recover lost data

I am using MS Office 2000. I have my excel files appearing in the Windows
Explorer as 0 KB. Am saving whenever I close the files. What could have
happened? How do I recover lost data [I don't have a backup copy]? My NAV
is regularly updated. Please help me.
