how do I reduce the size of the outlook calendar time display?

this question is about outlook 2003

when I select calendar, day or week display, on the left side there is a
timezone setting dependant display of intervals, in my case using a 24-hour
clock from 08:00 until 23:00

this display of numbers is using an ugly and huge font

what I have tried already is in calendar view > view > arrange by > current
view > customize current view > other settings > time font (changed from 24
to 10 pt)

made no change, same large ugly font display

tried with all sorts of small fonts, even 4pt, it does change font but not
the size
is this a known bug?
