How do I refer to non-contiguous cells in a compound function ...

I'd like to do a ttest on non-contiguous cells, but am having trouble making
excel understand where the commas delimit lists of cells and where they
delimt the function's elements. So I'd like: ttest({a1,h1},{b2,i2},2,1)
which doesn't work ...
