How do I remove Office 2000 after upgrading to Office 2003?

S

superba

I upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2003. The OS is XP Pro SP2+. The
upgrade which I repeated 4X leaves the Office 2000 installation intact. If I
remove it with add and remove or clean util, none of the 2003 apps work. I
selected remove the old Office 2000 during install.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Upgrading from Office 2000 may leave behind Office 2000 versions of products
not included in Office 2003, such as Front Page, PhotoDraw, etc. If you no
longer require these items, then uninstall them using their uninstall
routines under Add/Remove programs.

Hi Milly et al,

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, that is not my problem. If I use Add
& Remove from Control Panel, it breaks the links to the Office 2003 appls.
If I use the clean utility included with the installation sw, it does the
same.

When I installed, I selected remove all previous versions in the
installation choices. I tried installing using custom as well as the other
standard choices.

My problem may be that the version of Office 2003 is included on an eval DVD
that's included with my Technet sub. I could find not instructions requiring
extracting it from the DVD and building a separate installation CD or file,
so I installed from the DVD. I used both Pro11.msi and setup.exe to initiate
installation.

When I went online to get the updates for Office 2003, SP1 etc, the update
engine recognized Office 2000 and Office 2003 as standalone appls.

Either I've installed incorrectly or there is a major bug, for I don't think
anyone wants to upgrade from Office 2000 to 2003 and have the installation
leave both on their machine.

TIA for further help.

Cheers!

Hi Again(later),

I finally got rid of the previous Office 9 & 10 left overs after upgrading
to Office 2003. I did it by brute force; it wasn't elegant, but it did the
trick. I turned the Recycle Bin on, used the original CD's to uninstall and
finally got the whole thing cleaned up.

However, I either (1) did the install upgrade incorrectly, or (2) there is a
bug in the Office 2003 installation software on the eval DVD, for I selected
"remove all old versions" during installation.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers!
