Upgrade Office 2003 to Office Pro Plus 2007 - Remove 2003

I bought Office Pro Plus 2007 & installed over Office Small Business 2003. I
have XP SP2 OS. I checked the "Upgrade" box during installation. After
inst'n, all the 2003 software remains, even though I thought the 2007
instructions said it would remove the earlier versions. I like all the new
2007 programs. Is it OK to uninstall all the Office 2003 software or does
2007 need some of the 2003 files?

On an upgrade, yes the first thing that the process does is remove the
previous version; depending on which particular editions are involved, some
applications that were included with the earlier version/edition that are not
included in the newer version/edition will remain. Are you absolutely sure
that all of the 2003 apps are still there, and do they actually still run?
Office 2007 does not require any Office 2003 files; it is completely
self-contained, whether doing a clean install or an upgrade.

Thanks. Yes the old versions are there taking up mondo disk space, but none
are functional. I want to clean my hard drive of them. Sounds like it would
be OK (but I'll create a restore point just in case).

I would install and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove
Office 2003 as it seems that the uninstall was not completed - if it still
shows up in the Control Panel Programs area, then it will be listed in the
utility's apps window:
