How do I remove redundant recent publication entries ?

I have been creating greetings cards, and now Publisher is displaying in
"Recent Publications", large numbers of cards that have now been deleted.
The help system is, as usual, over complex, giving answers to completely
unrelated matters, but none to the matter in hand.
Can I remove these phantom "Recent Publications"?

Right-click Start, Properties, Start Menu tab, Customize button, there is a
Program clear button here. Now click advanced tab, Click clear list

Thanks Mary, as there is no Start option in Publisher, I used the START at
the bottom left of the screen. The Customise button took me to a Programs box
explaining the shortcuts on the Start Menu. Hitting the Clear List button
caused a processing indicator lasting several seconds, but the shadowed out
redundant entries still appear in the Publisher list.

Thanks Mary, but it looks as if we are hitting our heads against a brick
wall. I've visited this site before, and it gives no specific advice on
Publisher 2007 and even warns that their suggested methods for Publisher can
muck up the registry and make Windows inoperable. I think that we have
defeated Microsft and have to live with their shortcomings.
