How do I paint over a section of a page in Publisher 2007?

I have been using Microsoft Picture It to make business cards, brochures, and
collages. I now have a new VISTA computer with Publisher 2007. After
transferring files, I realize that Publisher does not open my .png files! I
am trying to paint over some sections of the .png files after importing them
as .jpg.

Anyone have the answer? For example, on my business cards, I would have
text boxes and picture boxes with logos. Now in publisher, those old
business cards are one image combined.

Should I consider going back to Microsoft Picture It? Any other software
one would recommend?

The only programs that will recognize
the layers in a MS Picture It! .png-plus
file are MS Picture It! or MS Digital Image.

The current version is call the Anniversary

(this offer is no longer being
promoted but I'm relatively sure
you can still download it and
run it for 60 days)
