How do I remove shadows (permanently)?

I have created an object by grouping text and shapes. Powerpoint is
automatically shadowing the object. I remove the shadows, hit file save, but
the next time I open the file the shadows are back on the object I just
removed them from. How do I get the shadows removed once and for all?!?

My guess is that you are using a placeholder in a theme where the
placeholders are shadowed. Try making the adjustment on the Master slide
and see if it stays gone on save and reopen.
